Start the New Year off with a new kitchen appliance, I always do. It breathes new life into the room’s appearance, and it normally ties into my health goals for the new year also. If you too like this idea, I might add that this is the year that I am investing in a mac daddy toaster oven. If this appeals, read on to get your fill of info on some of the best ones available.

As I am interested in making my own, healthy version pizzas, the Kenmore Elite Infrared Convection Toaster Oven looked great. Then I read reviews and it sounded awesome. This toaster can take six slices of bread at a time, so everyone can get started on breakfast together. As for my pizza interests, it can handle a twelve inch pizza without any problems. In addition, it comes with a pizza stone, so you know it was made for this type of cooking.

The bargain alternative is the Black and Decker Convection Countertop Toaster Oven. You will not be able to make as much toast at once, but what toast it can do is very nice. The real test, if you have the same interest as me, is how it is with pizza. It will only take a nine inch crust, but if your finances are not as big as your eyes, or stomach this is a good choice.

While out looking at new blenders I got side tracked with the sandwich makers. Last time I was in the presence of one of those was probably over five years ago. But, what memories I have of it are yummy ones to be sure. Which got me wondering if our home would not benefit from one of those now.

Being completely against impulse purchases, I left with out one, however started to do some research once I got home to my computer. What I came across, aside from a barrage of product comparisons was a blog by a woman who is a thrifty maven. She hailed the sandwich maker as one of the best gadgets she has to save money, and as such she says she uses it nearly daily to keep costs down. Furthermore, with all that practice she has compiled a list of recipes to go with her fanfare regarding the machine.

They do sound mighty tasty, for example: chicken pot pie, enchilada, and hot pastrami sandwiches along with desserts such as chocolate nut delight, and apple pie. Then she gets craftier and shares recipes for the sandwich maker egg roll and gyro. Now it is all coming back to me why it was such a staple in our home back then, and I am eager to bring this wonderful contraption back into play.

So the time has finally come around, I have been given the opportunity to design a kitchen with a retro vibe. I cannot begin to tell you how long I have waited for the chance to do this. I have seen so many done with great detail, and others with just a splash of the retro look, and have been completely captivated by them all. None of the homes that I have owned were proper vehicles for this type of décor, but I have secretly hoped that in a professional role, a client would ask to do something of this nature. And now, low and behold I get to choose all the retro kitchen appliances, and items to coordinate that I can muster up. This client is more than ready and willing to take this theme approach by the horns., and as you might have noticed by now, so am I.

Since the very first time I spotted those Smeg retro dishwashers and refrigerators, or should I call them ice boxes hee hee, I have been dreaming of which of the many fun colours I would go with first. As is to be expected they come in delightful ice cream tones, like a lemon yellow, pink bubble gum, and lime green. All of which not only look great, but lead me to a slight craving for soda fountain shop treats. But, then there is the option to get really into the theme and select candy striped ones that include all the ice cream tones in one place.

Luckily, though these appliances look like they could have been shuttled via time machine from the past, they are well stocked with all the details a modern household needs to function. They have auto defrost, wine racks, and the highest of energy ratings. All that and working as the centre piece of a kitchen design is definitely something to be excited about.

But, I also know that you should not rely on the appliances alone to make this important room in the home special. This is where it gets really fun to me, the coordination of the kitchen units will set the whole thing off properly. Along with lighting fixtures reminiscent of a time gone by, but not forgotten. All in all, the entire project is going to be one that I expect to become a favourite, and maybe even my crowning glory after years of dedication to crafting good homes.

People who live in homes with limited space for laundry facilities might debate whether to save space with a combined washer dryer machine, or if independent machines for washing and drying are necessary. Luckily, there is a ton of information available online regarding the different machines, the benefits and negatives that come with both. Having been through this myself, I can say that for what I believe is a rather straight forward question, there is a straight forward answer.

If you are considering a combination machine, you should know that it will hold less than a regular dryer when it comes to that cycle. So, either you will be forced to wash smaller batches all the time, or you will have to remove a fair portion of the items being dried before the cycle begins. This means that you will need an easily accessible place to put those wet pieces while the first batch is being dried.

In addition, you should expect to have to buy a replacement for the washer dryer machine. Obviously, when you have one machine doing the work of two, it will wear out faster. Plus, the price of these is often through the roof in my opinion. As I am sure you can tell, I did not go with the combo machine.

If you are in the market for a new machine, then check out the range of washing machines and dryers at http://www.very.co.uk and compare all brands and features to find the best suited for you.

I have an ongoing struggle going on over the bread maker. Of course I do not find any flaw in the bread maker itself, just what it brings with it. Delicious loaves of hot fresh bread, with a scent that fills the air like no other, and calories that fill out the waistline faster than the blink of an eye. For me it is so enticing, I cannot begin to imagine being able to control my intake should I ever get a bread maker.

The reason I bring it up now is that for the last few years as I am making my Christmas wish list I always contemplate putting this item on the list. They are so inexpensive nowadays, and so ridiculously simple to use that I am truly tempted. We also always visit some friends that bake their own bread and give the loaves as gifts at the end of the holiday meal. They actually hand it over still piping hot, and I think to myself I want a bread maker too. But once again this year I have kept this secret desire to myself, and I must remember that my hips will thank me for it in February.

If you have held out this long to buy new appliances, then just wait a smidge longer. Sales on items such as refrigerators, dryers and ovens come way down for the Christmas holidays. For once your procrastination might just pay off, and possibly enough to make the cost of all the gifts you buy for others.

Start now to do your research on which stores are offering the best prices, and your slacker reputation will start to fade into the background. Identify exactly what you want before you go to make the actual purchase and the process will go much smoother.

Should you be preparing to go on the hunt for good appliances, whether they be washer machines, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, stoves, refrigerators, or flat out everything, start your search right. To make the process easier, take your camera, or camera phone, to the store with you and photograph anything you are actually considering.

When you get home put your notes on these appliances in order and get the pictures printed out. Once you have all of this together, put the photos and applicable info on sheets of a photo album. This will almost act a catalogue of your home and will help you understand your options. It also assists in the overall style orientation you want to move toward, whether you want spartan or kitsch, deep coloured or bright white. With the advent of digital cameras and camera phones, we have become used to cataloging photos on the computer so creating a special photo album will stand as a great opportunity for some hands on art and craft. That way you have a master notebook to refer to at will. In addition, you will have a photo album to refer to when your memory fails you, or you need a visual reminder.

This practice will make your job of finding exactly what you want a great deal easier. Plus, if you or your family member goes to check out any appliance shops without the other then you will both be able to fully analyze the options. It will also substantially cut back on repeat visits to the same stores. Even once decades have passed and you have used and outgrown these new freezers, and microwaves looking back on them will be a real treat for your whole family.

I had a good laugh last night when I spoke to my brother about his new home. You see, it was just a couple of months ago that he was bragging about the house he intended to buy. He said all of the appliances were A level in energy efficiency rating, and that solar would bring all of the needed energy to his under floor heating system. And most impressive was the solar voltaic part, which would show him a profit in no time flat. Therefore, his house was not only going to be rated as an A in efficiency, but would ultimately pay for its own running costs. All in all, it would beat the pants off of my house.

Well, the story is now quite a different one. The solar system turned out to be way more expensive than he had budgeted for, so he would need to buy equipment to power the under floor heating, and pay for an astronomical number of gas bottles on a regular basis. And well, as for the solar voltaic prospect and profit, it is also a no go. The area he lives in has a moratorium on allowing new members into the program until at least September, of 2011. So, while I am proud of his good intentions, I am embarrassed to say that the overall rating on the energy efficiency of his house is a C. The point of this story, not only to publicly announce that my house is better than his, is to remind everyone that what a house has been promoted as being capable of can turn out to be a giant leap from what it will ultimately achieve. If you want to get an assessment of the energy efficiency of your house, you should enlist help from plumbers that can provide an assessment for you. These assessments can be a great way to help reduce your energy bills.

You may be inclined to run out and replace kitchen appliances, both big and small, the instant they stop working. However, this is rarely the best approach for several reasons. If you do not do some preliminary research before you set out, you are running a high risk of being dissatisfied.

Basically, there is no excuse for not doing your homework in this day and age. Vitally important information is easily accessible online, so make use of it. Specifically, search out product reviews done by actual consumers, and compare prices among different companies. If I had followed my own advice last month when I purchased a new blender I would be a much happier homemaker. Instead, I am the proud owner of a contraption that is promoted by an extremely well know chef that is the least user-friendly product I have ever used.

I personally have lived without an alarm clock for years due to my distaste for the frightful way they jolt you awake. Whether it be light music or trickling water, they all leave me feeling bitter. But, I recently came across what I think could be a very good appliance for the bedroom. They call it the Lumie Bodyclock, and it rings true for me.

This clock has a large light affixed to the top of it that gradually brightens to awaken you. Since our bodies are naturally tuned to respond to the sun rising, it makes plain sense to use this bedroom light to mimic it. Basically, you can program it so the sun rises for you each day when you want it to. Your body will react as the lightbox brightens incrementally, and you will not be startled.
