In our house, we are trying to get more veggies into our daily diet. Most recently I have been on a quest to get the whole family to enjoy cauliflower. It has always been a winer in my book, but not everyone at our dinner table has agreed to it being put on their plate in the past. So, here is what I came up with to entice the troops to not only take a “ no thank you” token helping, but to actually ingest the veg.

The top four recipes that I came across were roasted cauliflower salad, cauliflower with walnuts and grated carrot salad, cauliflower bacon and olive tortellini, and cauliflower puree. Right about now you are probably wondering if I have actually made all four of these yet, and the answer is blatantly no. In fact, during the time I spent looking up these recipes, the cauliflower has started to look a little peeked.

As such, tonight we will be cooking up the puree. This seems like the correct choice amongst the bunch as it will be virtually unidentifiable for starters. I will try to get them to try it without being told what it is made of. Oh , and that is just steamed cauliflower florets that have been pureed with some butter. The only addition is salt and pepper to taste. So, as you can see the second bonus is the easy in which it is made. Wish me luck!

Living room décor seems to depend more upon entertainment now than ever before. In the past, it was relatively easy to arrange a comfortable room with maybe a few couches and chairs, a bookcase or two, and maybe a fireplace or a modest television. However, as home entertainment potential has advanced, more and more people seem to be adapting, and organizing living rooms to accommodate virtual home theater systems. Of course, some of the basics still apply – you will want to do your best to arrange your room in an attractive way, and to make sure that it is a comfortable and appealing place for people to sit and relax. But the most important step, these days, may be to head out to Marks and Spencer to grab a nice new television.

Due to advances in television technology and production, the ideal living room TV set is now a relatively large, sharp-looking flat screen. In fact, if you head out to an electronics store, you may notice that there are hardly any options anymore anyway, and that almost the entire selection is made up of sleek flat screens. The best option, out of these, is an LCD LED screen, which offers the best picture quality and generally comes in a very thin, very flat design that makes it versatile when being placed in a room. Some can be set on stands, and some can be mounted on walls, depending on the layout and design of the room that you are putting them in.

Once you have your new big screen television selected and put in place, your room can really start to come together. For starters, you’ll want to put in a sound system that can match your television in quality. Beyond that, it will be up to you how you want to organize and design the home entertainment system that will serve as the anchor for your living room. Before long, the room could be transformed from a nice place to sit, to a place to relax with the highest quality of entertainment.

This is not to say that you cannot design a comfortable living room without a big expensive television. However, many people are discovering the various ways in which such a television can enhance a room. These days, you can even hook your television up to advanced networks, and WiFi connections, meaning that you can even stream viewing material from the Internet, etc. It is a simple fact that your options will expand with a nice new television. However, this is just something to consider as you go about maximizing the potential of your living room.

Boy oh boy did I not see August coming. It came like a flash, and was over even faster in my world. You see this is the first year that my son will be living off campus while at Uni. In true male fashion, Randal did not spend a second thinking about what he would need for the apartment that he and two friends will be sharing. In some ways this drives me bonkers, but especially when it came down to the selection of his new Silentnight Oberon Mattress I realised the upside to his nonchalant demeanour.

If he had been a girl he would have had long lists with titles such as Things I Absolutely Need to Get, Things I Would Like to Get, Things I Would Really Really Love to Get. The process of accruing said items would have probably sucked up the entire summer, and even then she most likely would have been disgruntled at being told no about a couple of things that were completely unnecessary. I imagine things would not have been left till the last minute, and would have been cluttering our rooms and halls for months on end. Which would have been another point of contention.

But knowing how this would all play out with Randal, I had my own properly allocated, concise list. Though it was a major triumph when I actually got him to accompany me to the shops, it all went smoothly. He listened to my recommendations, and there was no whining, or debates. Now do not get me wrong, I equally adore my daughter, but things work very differently when you are dealing with a teenage girl than a teenage boy. Our girl is completely consumed in having all the right stuff, and lots of it, and our boy is happy to wear the same pair of jeans for days in a row if it means no hassle.

This was exceedingly clear as we discussed the advantages of several mattresses, and Randal deferred to my opinion. Yes, that’s right all you parents of teens out there, my input was important. Whether he listened to anything I said about the Silentnight Mattresses, I will never truly know, but since he ended up with one because I recommended it, well that suits me just fine. It cut down the time we spent shopping substantially, and because we waited to get it, it was on sale. I was so pleased with the over all result of our whirlwind preparations that I caved and bought him a Wii with the money we saved. Which I personally hold the high score in bowling now.

So you’ve secured a mortgage and you’re about to go and pick up the keys to your brand new house: congratulations; the hardest part of relocating has been overcome. Searching for new houses for sale is easily the most trying part of any prospective move, but the task of actually moving in can prove stressful too. Preparation is key, and here are five great tips to help you sail smoothly through all the ups and downs of moving.

Overstock on boxes

You never actually know how many boxes you’ll need until the day comes, and the last thing you want to do is search for boxes. So do yourself a favour: buy twice as many boxes to begin with. Not only do you save time, but most removal firms also offer refunds on the boxes that you don’t use anyway, saving you time as well as money.

Label your boxes according to each room

You should have a good idea of how many rooms you have in your new house. So to make things run as smoothly as possible, allocate a number to each room. When it comes to packing up your stuff into boxes, you can allocate a number to each box according to where you want them. This not only makes things a little easier for you whilst unpacking, but it also helps the removal men. Time is money as they say, and I’m sure your hard working employees will be just as grateful for the extra level of organisation.

Utilise wardrobe/suitcase space

Wardrobes and suitcases are great ways to transport bulky duvets and pillows. Not only will it save valuable space in the car/van, but it also offers an extra layer of protection to the wardrobe by making it much more rigid during transport.

Keep valuable items with you

This can range from priceless family heirlooms to birth certificates and passports, but whatever the item it’s always a good idea to keep these at hand. For all those fragile items that are just too big to carry on your person or in your car, be sure to check your homeowners and movers insurance to find out if you’ll be covered in the event that the worst happens.

Pack ahead

Start by packing the least essential items. For instance, if it’s winter, it makes sense to pack all your summer clothes up first. TVs, gaming consoles, books, and anything that you can live without for a few days should soon follow and be packed and sealed away in anticipation for the big move ahead.

Many people keep receipts for important purchases like birthday presents, but have you considered keeping a receipt for everything you buy? Try it! You might be surprised how it affects you!

When you look back at all the receipts for one month or so, you might be astonished to realise how much you spent on lunches, soft drinks or sweets. As you become more aware of what you spend every month, you might question whether you really needed those things and if that money could have been better spent elsewhere!

Hoarding receipts is quite common, but the trick is to really look at them. It can be a wake-up call, especially if you’re getting into too much debt.

Also, once you really keep track of your money, it can help you to stick to a budget. Other ways to stick to a budget include withdrawing a set amount of cash for the week so you can only spend that amount, or cutting back on luxuries such as nights out. Managed bank accounts like the one from http://www.thinkbanking.co.uk/ can also help people to stick to a budget and pay bills on time.

Our family has been camping for as long as any of us can remember. We are so into it that it is not at all uncommon for us to give one another camping equipment as gifts for the holidays. And planning for big trips, and small alike make for great family time.

If you are not a camper you may be questioning what it is that our family likes so much about it, and why in the world we would cherish camping gear. For starters, it is very refreshing to extricate ourselves from the norms of our daily world. All the crazy running around, frantic routines, and hectic paces can truly wear you down. The best way we know how to combat this is to revisit nature, and step away from that daily grind business.

By changing our environment, our activities, and even the way we eat, drink and sleep we access an escape from all that weighs upon us. And, we enter into a rejuvenating experience by observing how the birds, squirrels, butterflies, and other creatures go about simple living. We see clearly how, though when we are at home we believe we are the epicentre of the whole universe, that is a blatant untruth. Perspectives such as this are regained.

We turn away from the microwaves, ovens, stoves, espresso machines, toasters and all forms of electricity and turn to the campfire. Just that beautiful flickering flame provides everything needed for heating, and cooking. Our meals consist of items that can withstand the elements, and are supplemented by the fish we catch, and the other edibles we forage for and gather. Our beds are made of little more than the earth and a mere sleeping bag. Our swimming pools need no maintenance whatsoever, as they are the rivers, lakes and streams of the natural environment.

And just like that we go from a holiday that could be expensive to one that is therapeutic and rewarding. There are no spats over which restaurant we will dine in, or when we should plan to meet up for our meals. We are already together, and are appreciative for that humbling time spent collecting wood for the fire, setting up tents, and listening to all the animals starting their day before even dawn has set in.

One other thing that we did not expect to gain from our camping expeditions are strong friendships. While out in the woods we have met some unbelievably kind, and interesting people. The kind of folks that you wish were your neighbours back home. They have shared inspirational stories, shown us how to get even more from the camping experience, and given us tips on where to go on our next trip.

And so having said all of that I think you might catch a glimpse of why we believe these trips are what make for the good life. When the time to exchange gifts rolls around, and our next camping trip is still a ways off, camping gear brings a small reminder of what we have to look forward to.

Seems like we are constantly striving to obtain more material objects in the quest to create a good life. But, every so often we get a reality check, and in response can see all that we have already should be more than enough to produce the very goal we are looking to achieve. In those moments, when we come face to face with others who have substantially less than we do, we are reminded that things do not make up the ingredients of a good life, it is the way we live, with or without those things, that design the makings of a good life.

So, as the weather warms up, and you start to compile a lengthy list of all the things you want to buy to make this the best summer ever, take a minute to think about if those things will make everything better than it already is, or if you can make improvements in other ways instead. And though the shop windows will be filled with temptations, and magazines will flaunt new and improved items, try to recognise that what you seek might already exist in your belongings, and within yourself.

I came across an online tool that I think is well worth mentioning, and it is called try-a-window treatment. On the Better Homes and Garden website they have created this instrument to enable you to see what the curtains, or shades you are interested in will look like on your style of window, and it is free to use as often as you like. If you do not have an idea of what you think will best suit your windows, then this will defo assist you in getting ideas, and gaining insight on the best prospects.

All you have to do is choose the window style and add the shades or curtains you want to see paired with it. Then, select your colours of choice for every element and get a first hand look at what you would be getting. The selections you make can be saved, or printed in colour, so you do not have to start over each time, or be without a permanent visual.

One of those things was looking for portable toilet hire companies; another was becoming as aggressive as a barrister when dealing with certain vendors. Neither activity sounds particularly fulfilling, but I have to say that both have at least taught me a new thing or two.

I have learned that given the chance to choose between searching for a portable toilet and verbally sparring with another guy from the window supplier’s office, I will gladly go with the loo option. Actually, to be entirely honest, there was a moment where I was so close to tears while arguing with a supplier that I though about running to hide in the very portable toilet I hired.

Yes, as we near the completion of the extension there are some bad memories I can now laugh at fully. But, I remain firm that there are others that will take more time to find even remotely amusing.

As I read through the newsfeed messages my friends put on Facebook, I have come to realize that we all want the same thing, more downtime. But, I think one friend in particular has hit the nail on the head by selecting the proper home furnishings that inspire relaxation. She is showing us all how and where to find that me time we all seek, and also making us all a bit envious.

This friend that I speak of, Valerie, has posted several messages about her new sofa, and how much she loves it. Usually her comments refer to how she lost 3 hours of time because she inadvertently enjoyed an impromptu nap on that new snugly couch. Most recently she simply stated that she had been swallowed up by the couch again.

So remember, it is ultra important, when selecting your couch, mattress, and chairs that you not overlook comfort level. Spend a little more if need be, chances are those items will last longer because you paid for quality. Then sink right into those pieces of furniture and enjoy the good life.
