The idea that antique stores are only for the wealthy, and maintain an air about them is only true of some elite shops. No doubt there are world famous antique stores, and even entire districts, but there are also thousands of others where good, if not great buys can be found.
A wonderful example of this is Magazine Street in New Orleans. The mixture of high end and reasonable is very welcomed. A little bit of everything, means something for everyone. Not to mention the feeling of searching out that piece your have in mind, and then negotiating an excellent price.
When done right shopping for antiques can actually be quite thrilling. Plus, there is a lot to be learned about artisans work and quality from items often found in these stores. Give it a go, and you might just be surprised with what you find.
